Overview

Join us for our third annual Professionalism Smorgasbord, our popular roundtable on legal ethics. The session is accredited for 1.5 hours of professionalism.

Format

This session is tailored to the practice of employment and labour law by in-house counsel. We will distribute scenarios containing ethical dilemmas faced by counsel. After a small group discussion on the scenarios, the discussion will be opened up to the overall group, guided by a review of the applicable Rules of Professional Conduct.

Themes that we will discuss include:

  • taking instruction from a person who may not be acting in the best interests of company
  • conflicts which may arise in the context of union certification/de-certification
  • dealing with self-represented litigants
  • how to respond when you receive a hold letter and certain information in your client’s possession has been destroyed or deleted.

Our presenters will invite questions and will remain available after the session for any informal discussions you wish to have.
