Date: July 4, 2013

On June 26, 2013, the Senate adopted a motion to amend Bill C-377, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (requirements for labour organizations). As previously reported, Bill C-377 is a private member’s bill which, if passed, will amend the Income Tax Act to require labour organizations to disclose certain prescribed information.

Amendments adopted by the Senate would, among other things, increase the amount of transactions and disbursements requiring disclosure from $5000 to $150,000 and increase the annual compensation of employees requiring disclosure from $100,000 to $444,661.

The Bill has returned to the House of Commons for consideration of the Senate’s amendments.
