Second Edition of An Educator’s Guide to Special Education Law Published
Catherine Peters and Brenda Bowlby, along with co-author Martha Mackinnon of Justice for Children and Youth, recently published a second edition of An Educator’s Guide to Special Education Law.
Since this book was originally published in 2001, both educators and parents have found it to be a very helpful guide for navigating Ontario’s complex special education system.
The second edition updates the original to reflect significant changes that have occurred in the law since 2001, and also includes new chapters dealing with the role of parent advocates, the trend towards use of human rights process to challenge special education decision-making, and discipline of students with special needs.
It also includes a new chapter dealing with accommodation of special needs at the post-secondary level which may be of useful to post-secondary institutions dealing with these issues.
