The International Employment Law Update from Taylor Vinters Features Article by Paul Schwartzman

The December 2019 issue of the International Employment Law Update from Taylor Vinters, an international law firm, features an article by Hicks Morley’s Paul Schwartzman, titled “Canada: Changes to Ontario’s Simplified Procedure and Small Claims Court Rules.”

The monetary limits for claims proceeding in Ontario’s Small Claims Court have increased (effective on January 1, 2020), in order to increase the number of claims brought in the Small Claims Court compared to the more costly and time-consuming Superior Court of Justice. In this article, Paul explains how these changes are particularly noteworthy for employers, as they will most likely result in more claims of wrongful dismissal being brought within the jurisdiction of the Small Claims Court and the rules of simplified procedure.
