Alaa Akbik

Summer Student, Queen's

Alaa Akbik completed her second year at Queen’s University Faculty of Law. Prior to attending law school, she received her Bachelor of Arts with distinction from the University of Guelph.

As a law student, Alaa volunteered for Pro Bono Students Canada by contributing to an employment law project that provided legal information to small business owners in Kingston. For two years, she served as co-president of the Queen’s Muslim Law Students Association, advocating for an inclusive space on campus for her fellow Muslim peers. This year, Alaa enjoyed mooting at the National Labour Arbitration Competition, where her team advanced to the finals and placed second overall. She also explored her interest in litigation by taking a trial advocacy course, in which she won the top oralist prize.

In her free time, Alaa likes spending the day by the lake, dabbling in new hobbies, and watching “dad movies.”
