Biography

Avleen Banwait is a graduate from the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law. She received her Bachelor of Arts, with an Honours Specialization in Political Science, from Western University. Throughout law school, Avleen participated in various mediation competitions and moots including the BLG / Cavalluzzo Labour Arbitration moot, in which she was awarded the distinction of Top Oralist.

Avleen developed her interest in labour and employment law and litigation as a Summer student in the HR Legal Department of an international auto-parts manufacturer, working on a variety of wrongful dismissal and human rights matters. She continued to build on this experience as a Summer student at Hicks Morley. Prior to law school, Avleen worked as a Policy Assistant at the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, where she drafted policies and procedures in accordance with the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario’s legislation and standards to prevent privacy breaches.

Avleen served as the President of the Women of Colour Legal Alliance of Windsor. In her free time, Avleen enjoys practising hot yoga, listening to true crime podcasts and experimenting with vegetarian cooking. Avleen is fluent in Punjabi, speaks intermediate level French and Hindi, and is currently learning Spanish.
