The Science of Data Breach Prevention

A Model for Achieving Reasonable Data Security through Information and Instruction

Agenda

Most organizations will experience a significant data security incident in the next two years. A poorly executed response can multiply the harms tenfold, while good breach response can enhance reputation and public trust.

This Advantage session will address what to do at the point you learn something has gone wrong. Our experienced lawyers will address the essential elements of breach response policy and practice, including:

  • readiness essentials
  • who should be on your team, including when to enlist external help
  • managing time pressure
  • planning for and making the notification decision
  • managing the regulator

We also welcome expert crisis communicator Karen Gordon of Squeaky Wheel Communications to discuss the critical role communications, with your key audiences, plays during and after a data breach.  Using case studies from well-known data breaches, discussion will focus on what to say, when to say and who has to hear it.
