Ryan Markesic is a labour and employment lawyer practising out of Hicks Morley’s Toronto office in all areas of workplace law and in civil litigation. Ryan has assisted in arbitrations, tribunals and matters before all levels of courts including the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal. He has a particular interest and experience in advising and representing colleges and universities on a variety of issues.

Ryan is called to the Bars of Ontario, Yukon and British Columbia, as well as the state of New York. He recognizes that employment law is a dynamic field that transcends borders, influencing workplace laws and regulations in both Canada and the United States. Understanding the law in both countries allows him to place Canadian law into a broader context and to assist clients in navigating diverse legal landscapes, ensuring comprehensive and sophisticated advice and support.

Ryan brings a client-centred approach to his practice of law by putting himself into his clients’ shoes and viewing the legal issue from their perspective. He enjoys getting to know his clients and developing an understanding of their business objectives and needs to best solve their legal issues and provide sound advice.

Prior to joining Hicks Morley, Ryan worked at a boutique labour and employment law firm in Vancouver where he advised employers on all workplace matters. He was also a judicial law clerk at the British Columbia Court of Appeal.

In his spare time, Ryan enjoys exploring the city and all the unique experiences it has to offer.
