Municipal workplaces—particularly those in high-stress, public-facing roles—are increasingly challenged by issues of security, workplace violence, bullying, and harassment. Stephanie Savoni and Nadine Zacks will lead a session at OMSSA’s 2025 Exchange Conference on Navigating Workplace Risk: Legal Obligations in Health, Safety, and Mental Well-being.
This session will provide a legal overview of employer obligations related to occupational health and safety, with a focus on managing risks in environments where employees may face aggression or threats from service users. We’ll explore key legal duties around mental health in the workplace and effective approaches to harassment investigations. The session will also cover how these situations can give rise to WSIB claims, and best practices for managing return-to-work obligations when such claims occur.
