Senior Accountant (Toronto Office)

We are currently looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team in our Toronto office.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Accountant, you will prepare, maintain, analyze and reconcile financial records for the firm, making sure that records and materials are both accurate and compliant. This position will report into the Manager of Financial Analysis and Reporting.

The successful candidate is a detail-oriented and collaborative finance professional who leverages their accounting experience and knowledge of accounting standards to ensure the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting.

Essential Duties

  • Maintain, analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts, including preparation and posting of all month-end journal entries.
  • Reconcile all payroll, banking and trust accounts.
  • Generate month-end trial balances and related general ledger reports.
  • Prepare and maintain all balance sheet continuity and amortization schedules.
  • Prepare monthly sales tax remittances and reconciliations.
  • Prepare year-end working papers and analysis for our annual financial audit.
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis, reporting and complete various projects as required.

  • Collaborate and provide support for finance projects and initiatives.
  • Maintain and update job skills and knowledge by participating in development opportunities within the firm.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years accounting experience with a strong working knowledge of accounting principles and guidelines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting with CPA designation or evidenced progress toward completion thereof.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Highly organized and solution-oriented.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication with excellent attention to detail.
  • Technical proficiency and the proven ability to embrace and master upgraded, enhanced, and/or new technologies.
  • Evidenced success in managing competing deadlines and priorities while ensuring firm standards are upheld.
  • Client service oriented and the ability to anticipate needs and proactively contribute to firm initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and recognize when to consult colleagues and/or support resources when appropriate.
