Susan Nickerson Featured in Benefits and Pensions Monitor
On May 10, 2013, Benefits and Pensions Monitor featured commentary from Susan Nickerson in the Daily News Alerts with respect to her resent presentation at the Eckler Ltd. ‘Reality Check: Coming to Grips with the Future of Capital Accumulation Plans in Canada’ seminar. In the session ‘Lessons from U.S. Experience’, Susan stresses that Canadian defined contribution sponsors need to keep up-to-date on what is happening in the U.S. to prepare for the future on this side of the border. Because DC plan experience is still new in Canada, lessons should be learned from the U.S. where employers moved to DC plans years ago. Susan further explains that to avoid legal action over their plans, sponsors need to ensure members understand their role in terms of benefit adequacy, that they understand how their plan works, and that they not only have to make informed investment decisions but they also need to select an appropriate contribution level.
