Biography
Drew McArthur is an employment lawyer practising out of Hicks Morley’s Ottawa office. Drew enjoys advising employers on a variety of matters related to litigation, employment law, and human rights.
Drew has appeared as counsel on various litigation matters—particularly breaches of restrictive covenants such as non-solicitation, non-competition, and confidentiality clauses—and has extensive experience in all issues related to the employment relationship. Drew has represented clients before Ontario’s courts, various tribunals, and before private arbitrators. Drew is particularly interested in cases involving injunctive relief and other work requiring urgent and careful advocacy.
Drew is well-regarded for providing clients with timely, clear, and sound advice. He appreciates that clients want to be able to connect with their lawyer consistently. Drew ensures that he picks up his clients’ phone calls, promptly answers their emails, and proactively advises his clients about the status of their matters. Drew appreciates that each matter requires a unique strategy. He works closely with his clients to thoroughly understand how their businesses operate and he delivers effective strategies tailored to the particular circumstances. Drew enjoys determining the “heart of the issue” and tailoring a plan to efficiently achieve his clients’ goals whether through careful negotiation or deliberate and tactical litigation.
Drew is committed to mentoring junior associates both in their development as labour and employment lawyers and also in the “business” of law. Drew enjoys speaking at firm events, client conferences, and professional seminars.
Outside of his busy practice, Drew enjoys hiking throughout Ottawa and Gatineau with his Siberian Husky named “Thunder”. He also loves golfing, playing tennis, and snowboarding. Finally, Drew actively practices stoicism and attributes his optimistic and pragmatic outlook to his early study of philosophy.
