Owais Hashmi

Owais Hashmi is a knowledge management lawyer in Hicks Morley’s Toronto office. In this role, Owais collaborates closely with the client services team to enhance client experiences by leveraging the firm’s legal technology and strategic insights to improve the efficiency and delivery of legal services.

Owais specializes in the systematic collection, organization and dissemination of legal knowledge within the firm. He supports the firm’s lawyers and clients by diligently monitoring case law and tribunal decisions, providing timely updates on current and emerging legislative developments and developing informative training sessions.

Committed to innovation, Owais utilizes cutting-edge knowledge management tools to streamline processes. He is particularly focused on the responsible use and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies to ensure the firm maintains its best-in-class knowledge systems and remains at the forefront of labour and employment law in Canada.

Before joining Hicks Morley, Owais completed his articles at a mid-sized, full-service law firm in Toronto. There, he gained significant experience in drafting legal memoranda and analyzing complex legal issues. During his tenure, he co-authored 18 publications across various practice areas.

Owais also serves on the Board of Directors for the Durham Community Legal Clinic, a government-funded charitable organization that provides free legal services to low-income residents in Durham Region. In this capacity, he offers crucial insights on risk management and strategic planning to ensure the clinic operates at an optimal level.
