Successfully defended a pension plan administrator in a series of applications before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario where the applicants claimed that the pension plan’s re-employment provisions discriminated against pensioners on the basis of age.

Advised and represented a large newspaper publisher in multiple corporate transactions involving the acquisition and/or divestiture of employee benefit plans and pension or retirement plans, and the resulting asset and liability transfers.
Represented a large retail sector employer in the transition of its extensive employee benefits platform to new insurers, negotiating all aspects of the new insurance and service-related contracts.
Successfully defended a plan administrator in an application seeking survivor benefits contrary to the pension plan terms.
Represented multiple school boards in claims relating to enrolment in the Ontario Municipal Employees’ Retirement System.
Pension counsel to one of Canada’s leading steel producers in its Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act restructuring.
Successfully represented a school board in an appeal before the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeal Tribunal, resulting in the Tribunal denying entitlement for loss of earning benefits.
Upheld a lower court decision dismissing a long-term-disability benefits action against an insurer on appeal.
Represented a large employer in a class action brought by former employees regarding changes to a retiree benefit program.
Represented trustees of a pension plan in a class action relating to ownership of surplus pension plan funds and administration of the pension plan and successfully resolved the matter with no liability for the trustees.
