Biography

Alaa Akbik obtained her Juris Doctor from Queen’s University. Prior to law school, she received her Bachelor of Arts with distinction from the University of Guelph.

As a law student, Alaa volunteered for Pro Bono Students Canada by helping to provide legal information on employment matters to small business owners. In her capacity as co-president and EDII Outreach Coordinator of the Queen’s Muslim Law Students Association, she advocated for diverse and inclusive spaces and initiatives on campus. Alaa enjoyed mooting at the National Labour Arbitration Competition, where her team advanced to the finals and placed second overall. She also pursued her interest in litigation by taking a Trial Advocacy course, in which she won the top oralist prize. In her final year, Alaa worked as a research assistant for a workplace investigator, where she further explored human rights and employment law topics. In her free time, Alaa enjoys spending the day by the lake or on a trail, dabbling in new hobbies, and attending local events with friends.
