Biography

Michael Lalonde is a law student at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, with a strong academic and professional foundation in civil litigation and labour and employment law. He holds an B.A. (Hons.) in History with a minor in Speech Communication and an M.A. in History from the University of Waterloo, as well as an M.A. in International Affairs from Carleton University.

Michael joined Hicks Morley as a 1L summer student and is returning for his 2L summer, where he continues to deepen his focus on workplace law and litigation within the Ontario legal landscape. As a law student, Michael has participated in several moot court competitions, volunteered with the Business Law Clinic, and served as an editor on the Comparative Labour Law & Policy Journal. His practice interests include employment litigation, labour arbitration, and human rights disputes. Drawing on his leadership experience and analytical skills, Michael takes a proactive, client-focused approach to legal problem-solving, ensuring tailored support for employers navigating complex workplace issues.

Prior to law school, Michael served as a senior intelligence officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, where he provided operational and strategic intelligence assessments and national security advice to senior military leadership and government officials. He also ran as a federal candidate in the 2019 election for Ottawa West–Nepean and founded a consulting firm offering leadership solutions to small and midsized businesses.

Outside of work and school, Michael is a novelist. He writes Canadian military and political thrillers, including The Quiet War: Canadian Front, his debut novel in a series exploring national security
