Overview

With the closure of WSIB’s Second Injury and Enhancement Fund (SIEF), Schedule 1 employers will need to reassess how they manage claims costs involving causation, pre-existing conditions and pre-accident impairments. This session will provide practical guidance on the tools that remain available to employers as they navigate this new claims management landscape.

Format

Hicks Morley’s WSIB Practice Group Leader, Stephanie Savoni, will discuss strategies employers can consider as part of a comprehensive approach to claims management following the end of SIEF cost relief. The session will cover:

  • Entitlement appeals and ongoing entitlement reviews
  • WSIB policies addressing pre-existing conditions and aggravation of a pre-accident impairments
  • Managing claims wherein a worker has a pre-existing condition or pre-accident impairment
  • The role of the return-to-work process in controlling claims costs

Audience and Learning Objectives

This session is designed for employers, in-house counsel, human resources professionals, disability management teams, health and safety leaders and anyone involved in managing WSIB claims, return-to-work planning or claims cost control. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of the practical options available after the closure of SIEF and how those tools can support a coordinated claims management strategy.
