On May 2, 2014, prior to the dissolution of the Legislature, the Ontario government published regulatory amendments to s. 4 of Ontario Regulation 253/07 made under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997 (“WSIA”).

O. Reg. 113/14 adds the following six cancers to the list of diseases that are prescribed for the purposes of the presumptive status in s. 15.1(4) of WSIA:

  • primary-site breast cancer, multiple myeloma and primary-site testicular cancer, effective immediately;
  • primary-site prostate cancer, effective January 1, 2015;
  • primary-site lung cancer, effective January 1, 2016; and
  • primary-site skin cancer, effective January 1, 2017.

The extended status is retroactive to January 1, 1960, and applies to full-time, part-time and volunteer firefighters and fire investigators.
