As of January 1, 2018, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997 (WSIA) allows for entitlement to benefits for chronic mental stress. Prior to these amendments, only traumatic mental stress (“an acute reaction to a sudden and unexpected event”) was compensable.
