New OHSA Noise Protection Regulation Coming Into Force July 1, 2016

On July 1, 2016, noise protection requirements will be extended to all Ontario workplaces pursuant to O. Reg. 381/15 made under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
The noise protection requirements currently found in the following regulations will be revoked effective July 1, 2016:
- Regulation 851 – Industrial Establishments (s. 139) (O. Reg. 382/15)
- Regulation 854 – Mines and Mining Plants (s. 293.1) (O. Reg. 383/15)
- Regulation 855 – Oil and Gas – Offshore (s. 41) (O. Reg. 384/15)
Also effective July 1, 2016, the noise protection requirements in O. Reg. 381/05 will apply to all farming operations (O. Reg. 414/05 – Farming Operations as amended by O. Reg. 385/15).
As stated by the Ministry of Labour, workplaces covered by the new noise requirements effective July 1, 2016 will now include:
- construction projects
- health care facilities
- schools
- farming operations
- fire services
- police services.
