Ministry of Labour Consulting on “Safe at Work” Initiatives

The Ontario Ministry of Labour has announced a consultation entitled “Safe at Work Ontario 2020-21.”

The Ministry is seeking information and input from stakeholders in response to specific questions related to the following issues:

  1. Hazards

The Ministry has identified the top 10 occupational health and safety issues and violations in the workplace. It is asking stakeholders for feedback on addressing those issues in their workplaces, among other things.

  1. Health and Safety Initiatives

The Ministry states that it now has a two-phase approach to health and safety initiatives, beginning with an “education, outreach and awareness phase” and ending with an inspection phase. Stakeholders are asked to comment on the new approach. As well, they are asked to comment on occupational health initiatives.

  1. Education, Outreach and Awareness

The Ministry is seeking feedback on where stakeholders are accessing information relating to workplace health and safety as well as feedback on the outreach offered by the Ministry.

  1. Sector Specific Topics

The Ministry is seeking feedback on a number of questions related to the following sectors: construction, industrial, healthcare and mining.

Stakeholders are asked to submit their feedback on the identified questions by October 31, 2019. They may also register to participate in the Ministry’s in-person sessions.
