Stephen Shamie Quoted in The Globe and Mail

Hicks Morley’s Stephen Shamie was quoted in The Globe and Mail on June 4, 2015, in an article entitled, “B.C. judge reserves ruling in CFL concussion suit“. The article discusses a lawsuit filed by Arland Bruce, a former CFL wide receiver, against the CFL. The lawsuit alleges that Mr. Bruce ‘suffered a concussion during a game and was allowed to return for a playoff game seven weeks later, despite still suffering from the effects of the concussion’.

Stephen Shamie who represents the CFL, explained that ‘the lawsuit should be struck down because the court does not have the jurisdiction to hear it… CFL players are covered by a collective agreement and it stipulates grievances must go through arbitration’.
