Conference / Seminar

Hicks Morley is delighted to present our 2024 School Board Management Conference for human resources professionals, directors of education, supervisory officers and trustees.

We invite you to join us for breakfast and a “whirlwind tour” of recent developments in labour, employment and education law. After a brief networking break, you’ll attend a plenary session on the right to privacy and freedom of expression in schools followed by a dynamic session by our guest speaker. After lunch, you’ll participate in two workshops of your choice (which you’ll preselect during registration) and have another opportunity to network.

Workshop

This session focuses on investigation fundamentals. Attendees will learn the key takeaways from case law and best practices for investigating workplace incidents.

Speaking Engagement

Designed for school board trustees, labour relations practitioners, human resources practitioners, supervisory officers and directors of education, this year’s Education Labour Relations and Human Resources Symposium will feature informative keynote speakers, panels and workshops on innovation and transformation in a changing labour relations environment.

Speaking Engagement

Navigating uncertain times requires knowledge and understanding of current legal trends. In this half-day session, Nadine Zacks, Njeri Damali Sojourner-Campbell and Colleen Nevison will discuss new legislation such as disconnecting from work and legislative changes for federally regulated employers, post-pandemic protocols such as remote work and hybrid work, and other subjects of interest including terminations, human rights and vaccine mandates.

Workshop

Requests for family status accommodation have become increasingly common in recent years, and in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, these types of requests are only expected to increase. Whether an employee requests accommodation due to the need to supervise their child during the day, provide increased support for an elderly parent, or care for a family member who has contracted the virus, it is critical that the employer respond in a manner consistent with the current state of the law on family status accommodation. Join us for a webinar that addresses the legal obligations and best practices to keep in mind when engaging in the accommodation process, both during the pandemic and beyond.
