Overview
Ontario’s 2026 Budget, A Plan to Protect Ontario, introduced Bill 97, which contains significant amendments to the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA). This session, designed for HR professionals, in‑house counsel, privacy officers, senior administrators, and employer‑side advisors will provide a practical overview of the MFIPPA changes introduced through Ontario’s 2026 Budget and their implications for workplace privacy obligations.

This 1-hour webinar will review the MFIPPA amendments arising from Bill 97 that are most relevant to institutions covered the Act including school boards, municipalities, police services boards, boards of health, transit commissions, library boards and other local boards, with a particular focus on how the reforms affect the collection, use, disclosure, and protection of employee personal information.

- revised timelines and procedural expectations for responding to access requests
- approaches to managing large or complex requests (expanded institutional flexibility)
- implications of electronic and digital records for access, retention, and searches
