Overview

In this one-hour session, we will explore the legal and practical aspects of implementing Safe Sport policies within Canadian universities. Participants will gain insights into the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS), understand when and how it applies to their institutions, and learn how to develop effective complaint mechanisms and disciplinary frameworks that align with legal obligations and promote a culture of safety and inclusion in campus athletics.

Format

In this Advantage CPD webinar, we will provide a high-level overview for legal counsel, HR professionals and others working in the universities sector who are responsible for ensuring a Safe Sport environment within their institution, including:

  • Recognizing the circumstances under which their institution may be subject to the UCCMS.
  • Developing or refining internal policies and complaint mechanisms to effectively address maltreatment in sports.
  • Implementing disciplinary frameworks that promote accountability and align with legal obligations.
  • Ensuring that institutional policies are consistent with applicable laws and collective agreements.

Audience and Learning Objectives

This webinar will equip participants with the knowledge necessary to understand when they may be bound by UCCMS, the expectations of UCCMS and where to being reviewing internal policies to ensure they are fostering a campus sports culture that emphasizes safety, inclusivity, and the well-being of all participants.
