Overview

Effective navigation of the WSIB and the WSIAT appeals process is critical for employers to ensure fair representation and decision making, manage costs, and improve overall outcomes. But the process is complex. This workshop will help human resources professionals and others responsible for managing WSIB claims understand the appeals rules and procedures so that they can better manage the appeals process for their organizations. The workshop will also equip attendees with an introduction to the principles of effective advocacy to help them put their best appeals case forward.

Format

In this interactive workshop, participants will gain the strategies and tools needed to manage the WSIB and WSIAT appeal processes, understand the differences between the WSIB and WSIAT appeal procedures, learn the common mistakes and pitfalls and how to avoid them, how to assess evidence and develop a theory of the case, and how and when to seek professional assistance.

Audience and Learning Objectives

Designed for frontline human resources and disability management professionals, participants will leave the session with a detailed understanding of:

  • the key differences between WSIB and WSIAT appeals
  • the appeals timeline
  • collecting and preparing evidence for the oral and written submissions and hearings
  • the role and responsibility of the Appeals Resolution Officer in the WSIB appeals process
