Ontario Tables Budget 2022
Date: April 29, 2022
On April 28, 2022, the Ontario government tabled its 2022 Budget: Ontario’s Plan to Build. On the same date, Bill 126, Plan to Build Act (Budget Measures), 2022 was introduced for first reading.
From a human resources perspective, the Budget reviews a number of initiatives previously announced (e.g. general minimum wage to increase to $15.50 on October 1, 2022, a commitment to consult on a target benefit plan framework and implement a permanent framework by the end of 2023 before the Specified Ontario Multi-Employer Pension Plan rules expire in 2024).
The Ontario Legislature rose on April 28, 2022 and is set to resume sitting on August 8, 2022, after the general election.
The Budget would have to be reintroduced should the current government be re-elected.
