Overview
Ontario employers need to prepare for significant changes to the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA) coming into effect in 2025 and early 2026. These amendments, introduced through variations of the title, “Working for Workers Act,” create new obligations regarding employee leaves, information disclosure requirements, and job posting transparency. Organizations must understand these changes to ensure compliance and update their workplace policies accordingly.
Format
This session will provide an overview of the pending ESA amendments and practical guidance for implementation, including:
- understanding the new 27-week Long-Term Illness Leave (effective June 19, 2025) and how it interacts with existing leave entitlements and accommodation requirements
- implementing the enhanced employee information disclosure requirements for employers with 25+ employees (effective July 1, 2025)
- preparing for the job posting transparency rules taking effect January 1, 2026, including compensation disclosure requirements, restrictions on Canadian experience requirements, and AI usage disclosure
- navigating the upcoming Placement of a Child Leave provisions and their impact on existing parental leave and benefits policies
This webinar will include an interactive Q&A feature. A panel discussion will be built into the last 10 minutes of the session to address audience questions that were submitted.
Learning Objectives
After the webinar, audience members will have a better understanding of the timeline for these ESA changes, specific employer obligations under each new provision, and practical strategies for updating workplace policies, employment agreements, and job posting practices to ensure compliance while minimizing disruption to operations.
Hicks Morley will endeavour to accommodate guests with a disability in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code guidelines and other applicable legislation.
