Overview
The OPSBA Education Labour Relations and Human Resources Symposium features informative keynote speakers, panels and workshops on managing human resources issues in the media, workplace investigations, safe schools, collective bargaining, social media in the workplace, employment equity and employee wellness.
In “Coping with Labour Disruptions,” Grant Nuttall will be joined by Sari Taha, Halton District School Board’s Superintendent of Human Resources, to to discuss how school boards may best prepare for and respond to strike activity, including the full withdrawal of services.
In “Pay Equity: Strategies for Proactive Compliance,” Lauri Reesor and Lucy Wu will be joined by Ian McMeekin, Simcoe County District School Board’s Senior Manger of Human Resources, to discuss how pay equity maintenance obligations arise despite provincially determined grids.
In “Showing Your Work: Meeting the Procedural Duty to Accommodate,” Amanda Lawrence-Patel and Sean Reginio will be joined by Candice Nameth, Peel District School Board’s Manager of Abilities, Wellness, Attendance Human Resources, Partnerships and Equity, to discuss how school boards can satisfy their procedural duty to provide reasonable accommodation and how WSIB obligations should be considered during the accommodation process.
In “The Principal as Investigator: Pros, Cons, and Best Practices,” Njeri Damali Sojourner-Campbell and Colleen Nevison will explore the unique opportunities and challenges posed by principal-led investigations, describe the special considerations that arise when students are involved as witnesses, and identify best practices for training and providing support for principals in this role
