Hicks Morley is delighted to present our 2024 School Board Management Conference for human resources professionals, directors of education, supervisory officers and trustees.

We invite you to join us for breakfast and a “whirlwind tour” of recent developments in labour, employment and education law. After a brief networking break, you’ll attend a plenary session on the right to privacy and freedom of expression in schools followed by a dynamic session by our guest speaker. After lunch, you’ll participate in two workshops of your choice (which you’ll preselect during registration) and have another opportunity to network.

This year’s Growing Your Workforce Conference, hosted by Workforce WindsorEssex, focuses on addressing workforce development challenges and opportunities across Southwestern Ontario. It is an event where ideas are exchanged, best practices are shared, and solutions are crafted to address the pressing issues facing workforces, talent pipelines and local labour markets.

Learn how to respond to an individual’s request for accommodation, administer attendance management plans, deal with chronic absenteeism and gain the tools for effective and proactive WSIB claims management. You will also be provided with an overview of navigating the common pitfalls that can arise so as not to infringe on an employee’s human rights and avoid potential liability.

In this hands-on, interactive workshop, we will introduce tools for effective and proactive WSIB claims management. Attendees will participate in hypothetical WSIB claim scenarios to apply the tools and strategies they have learned. Attendees will also receive helpful templates that they can adapt for their workplace return-to-work programs, as well as other written tools to assist with effectively managing their claims. The workshop will conclude with a panel discussion to give attendees the opportunity to ask questions of our experienced WSIB practitioners.

Managing WSIB claims has become increasingly complex. Many issues are impacting employers’ WSIB costs, including unsuccessful return-to-work efforts, complicated injuries, psychological conditions, pre-existing conditions and a lack of monitoring and progress. In this workshop, attendees will learn proactive and effective strategies to manage some of the most common and difficult issues that arise in WSIB claims, with a view to mitigating their costs and reducing their risks.
