Overview

Learn how to respond to an individual’s request for accommodation, administer attendance management plans, deal with chronic absenteeism and gain the tools for effective and proactive WSIB claims management. You will also be provided with an overview of navigating the common pitfalls that can arise so as not to infringe on an employee’s human rights and avoid potential liability.

Format

Topics include:

  • the general principles of disability management
  • the concept of frustration and how to reconcile this with the duty to accommodate
  • independent medical examinations—when they are appropriate and when they can be made compulsory
  • application and assessment of attendance management plans and practices and compliance with legal principles and requirements
  • effective communication with employees and medical providers on questions related to the employee’s medical information while respecting their right to privacy
  • how to manage termination of employment when the employee has no reasonable prospect of returning to work
  • how to effectively participate in WSIB claims management
  • return to work, recovery, and addressing barriers
  • spotting and managing other employment issues that may arise during a WSIB claim
