Overview
Requests for accommodation based on an individual’s religious beliefs, gender identity and/or gender expression can present unique challenges. How you respond to these types of requests can mean the difference between a finding that suitable accommodations were offered and one that exposes your organization to significant liability. Join us for a webinar that addresses the legal obligations and best practices to keep in mind as they relate to religious accommodation, gender identity and gender expression.
This webinar will address the following:
- An introduction to religious accommodation
- How to address conflicts between workplace rules and religious obligations
- An overview of gender identity and gender expression in the workplace
- What is and is not included in the scope of gender identity and gender expression protections
Audience and Learning Objectives
This webinar will be of interest to human resource professionals and legal counsel who already have an understanding of the general principles of accommodation, and wish to learn more about the topic in the context of religious accommodation, gender identity and gender expression.
This webinar will include a summary of recent decisions to come out of the Tribunal and the courts on issues including accommodation for religious holy days, and discrimination in access to services on the basis of gender identity and gender expression. A panel discussion will also be built into the session to address audience questions.
Hicks Morley will endeavour to accommodate guests with a disability in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code guidelines and other applicable legislation.
