Overview

Managing WSIB claims has become increasingly complex. Many issues are impacting employers’ WSIB costs, including unsuccessful return-to-work efforts, complicated injuries, psychological conditions, pre-existing conditions and a lack of monitoring and progress. In this workshop, attendees will learn proactive and effective strategies to manage some of the most common and difficult issues that arise in WSIB claims, with a view to mitigating their costs and reducing their risks.

The workshop will build on the essentials of effective claims management by going in-depth on topics such as:

  • how to effectively participate in claims’ adjudication
  • return to work, recovery, and addressing barriers
  • spotting and managing other employment issues that may arise during a WSIB claim

Format

In this hands-on, interactive workshop, we will introduce tools for effective and proactive WSIB claims management. Attendees will participate in hypothetical WSIB claim scenarios to apply the tools and strategies they have learned. Attendees will also receive helpful templates that they can adapt for their workplace return-to-work programs, as well as other written tools to assist with effectively managing their claims. The workshop will conclude with a panel discussion to give attendees the opportunity to ask questions of our experienced WSIB practitioners.

Audience and Learning Objectives

This workshop is designed for frontline human resources and disability management professionals with a moderate level of WSIB claims management experience. The workshop will provide attendees with the tools they need to bring their claims management to the next level by learning effective and proactive strategies to reduce costs, meet legal obligations and resolve claims in their workplaces. Those who are new to WSIB claims management are also welcome.

By the end of this program, attendees will understand how to:

  • effectively investigate and share important evidence with the WSIB before an entitlement decision is made
  • create and implement strategies to maximize timely, cost-effective and successful return-to-work outcomes
  • navigate common barriers for recovery and claim progress
  • effectively communicate with the WSIB, even when the WSIB is not communicating with you
  • identify other important employment issues that may arise in a WSIB claim and how to address them

Hicks Morley will endeavour to accommodate guests with a disability in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code guidelines and other applicable legislation. If you require any accommodations for this event, please indicate the nature of the accommodation below.

Please note that in order to maximize the experience of attendees, spaces in the workshop will be limited. We encourage you to register early to avoid disappointment.
