SJTO Launches New HRTO Pilot Project for Children and Youth Cases

Date: August 30, 2017

Earlier this summer, the Child and Youth Division of the Social Justice Tribunals of Ontario (SJTO) launched a pilot project to stream child and youth cases from the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO), and to provide access to specialized panels of adjudicators and mediators with expertise in child and youth issues and an understanding of the barriers children and youth may face at the HRTO. Cases in the pilot project will be assessed and triaged as “urgent,” “fast-tracked” or “normal” depending on the circumstances of each case.

Child and youth matters have been a key focus of government reform. For more information on recent changes to the legislative framework governing child and youth issues, see our prior publication, Ontario’s New Child and Family Services Framework is Coming Soon.
