Since May 2015, two government-appointed Special Advisors have been undertaking the Changing Workplaces Review to consider the changing nature of the workplace, the causes behind those changes, and whether the Labour Relations Act, 1995 and the Employment Standards Act, 2000 require amendments to meet the challenges of today’s workplaces.
On July 27th, the Special Advisors released their Interim Report – a large, 300+ page document, that explores a wide range of possible reforms that would, if even some are adopted and implemented, significantly change the labour and employment landscape in Ontario.
At this Advantage CPD session, we will take you through the key areas of the Interim Report, followed by a structured Q&A panel discussion of the issues and their potential implications for employers. Topics of discussion will include:
- Related and joint employer principles
- Regulation of non-standard employment
- Card-based certification, sectoral bargaining and related proposals
- Scope of ESA application, including a review of key exemptions and application to independent and dependent contractors
- Enforcement
By the end of this seminar, attendees will be in a position to assess the potential impact of the proposals being considered by the Special Advisors, and whether their organization should participate in the comment period that is open until October 14, 2016.
Our presenters will invite questions and remain behind for any informal discussions you may wish to have.
