Session A – Afternoon Workshops and Q & As (Choose One)

OPTION 1: Navigating Student Issues

Whether it’s a case of student discipline or student suspension/expulsion, or a request for student accommodation, we will provide you with guidance on how to manage these often difficult issues.

OPTION 2: Employee Discipline Update

Disciplining employees is one of the most challenging tasks a manager faces. In this session we bring you up to date on recent developments and steps you can take to make sure any discipline process you put in place is “onside” the collective agreement and/or Board policies.

OPTION 3: Attendance Management Refresher

In recent years school boards have been continuously challenged when implementing attendance management programs. This session considers how to make those programs consistent with collective agreements, O. Reg. 1/13 and any possible changes arising from centrally negotiated deals.

Session B – Afternoon Workshops and Q & As (Choose One)

OPTION 1: Human Rights and the Accommodation Challenge

The school board sector faces unusual accommodation challenges, involving such issues as the use of sick leave to top up FTE status, the accommodation of travel to the workplace and the insistence on modifying school staffing arrangements. We will review these challenges and more in this review of recent accommodation issues you need to know about.

OPTION 2: The Non-Union Employee

Recent statutory changes have impacted not just the collective bargaining process but also compensation issues relating to senior management. In this session we review the Broader Public Sector Executive Compensation Act, 2014 and its implications for compensation restraint in the sector. As well, we discuss other issues affecting non-union employees, including constructive dismissal and terminations.

OPTION 3: Labour Law Update

We are back with our ever popular session on recent important labour law cases affecting the school board sector and beyond.
